PRESS RELEASE - June 9, 2006

Alpha Omega Health Obtains Substance Abuse Licenses

Alpha Omega Health has been licensed by the North Carolina Division of Facility Services to provide substance abuse services in Yancey and Mitchell Counties. Located at 511 East Main Street, the Burnsville program hopes to work with local agencies including Yancey DSS, the criminal justice system, local health care providers, private businesses, and the schools to offer quality substance abuse services to adults, children, and families. Joe Martin, who will oversee substance abuse services at Alpha Omega, is licensed by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board as a Clinical Addictions Specialist and is certified as a Clinical Supervisor. In addition, Joe is licensed as a Clinical Social Worker and has provided mental health, developmental disability, and substance abuse services in Yancey County for 17 years and in Western North Carolina for the past 28 years. According to Joe, Mental Health Reform has created a lot of confusion and concern regarding the continued availability of quality services, especially in rural areas of the state. J.K. Horne, the President and CEO of Alpha Omega, saw these major changes as an opportunity to expand the services offered by Alpha Omega. Joe adds, “We’ve come a long way in these two counties in the area of identifying and treating substance abuse and I’m delighted that Alpha Omega is committed to ensuring that we don’t lose ground as mental health reform unfolds.” Alpha Omega will also provide assessment and treatment for individuals who are arrested or convicted of Driving While Impaired. For more information regarding services provided by Alpha Omega Health, call Joe Martin or Junior Grindstaff at 828.678.9544.
